On May 20th, 2023, CyRIC attended the “The Makers Fair’ Event in Larnaca, Cyprus.
It is a festival of technology and creation based on the Makers’ Movement, open to the public as well as professional and amateur makers. The event included interactive STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) workshops focusing on robotics, programming, and woodworking. There were also technology booths visited by creators, organizations, and institutions to showcase their work and creations. Overall, more than 500 people attended the event.
In addition, various activities and crafts were organized, including demonstrations of useful skills, a pottery workshop, and cultivation in the Smart Garden available in the space. Participants also had the opportunity to attend inspiring speeches by professionals on technology and making, such as 3D printing and virtual reality. The audience could enjoy street food, drinks, desserts, and music alongside the activities.
The “MakersFair” aspires to become a new tradition, offering the local community the opportunity to engage in meaningful dialogue between participants and visitors and to become a hub of ideas.
At the “Makers Fair”, CyRIC disseminated the STEAM2GO Mobile Maker Space! With STEAM2GO Mobile Maker Space we eliminate geographical and socioeconomical obstacles by creating a lightweight and portable mobile makerspace model that can be wheeled from classroom to classroom and even outdoors to have fun while making stuff.
CyRIC and STEAM2GO partners designed and equipped the STEAM2GO Mobile Maker Space and developed various exemplary projects that combine creatively artefact construction and entrepreneurial thinking. CyRIC with students from Kykkos B’ High School, re-designed the classic pinball machine, delivering fully functional mechanical and electronic pinballs – having a ton of fun and learning on the way!
STEAM2GO project is co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union under grant number 2020-1-PL01-KA201-081698.
